One morning I was teaching English online to one of my Chinese students. The lesson was about relationships and friendships. I asked my student what he would like to learn from this lesson. He, with a sad look in his eye, quietly said that he wanted to know how to make good, real friends. The look on his face broke my heart. It was evident that this boy wanted to make good friends; he expressed later that he wanted a best friend.
Friends are difficult to make. I remember after I graduated college and went back to my hometown that I really lacked good friendships. I desired to make friends that really loved the Lord and would encourage me in my faith. I began praying and seeking God's word.
Proverbs 18:24--"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."
Soon after praying and seeking God's word, the Lord gave me this verse. If we want to have friends then we must be friendly to others. I realized that I should be the friend that I earnestly desired.
Since this time I can say that the Lord has given me a great group of friends. I am so thankful to the Lord for great friends that love the Lord. You too can have good friends! Pray and ask God for friends and be the friend that you desire. It will not be long and you will have good friends.
